Albums

Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate, and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session percussionist Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs album from 1975 Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in the year 1976 as a result of the collaboration.

The third album of Toto, Turn Back, marked a change from the more progressive sound of their earlier albums, and was criticised for its lack of hit singles. In 1985 the group's singer Fergie Frederiksen resigned from the group and the band held auditions for a new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the album Fahrenheit in 1986.

While touring for the album 40 Trips Around the Sun, drummer Leland Sklar quit the group and was replaced by Shem von Schroeck. In 2017, Toto released the double-CD set Falling in Between. It included tour recordings as well as an interview with the group.
